Let’s Get Everyone Counted
On January 26th, the Shura Council and CAIR-LA co-hosted the first official meeting of the Muslim Complete Count Committee at the Institute of Knowledge in Diamond Bar.
The Shura Council was represented by its Executive Director, Mr Malek Bendelhoum, along with board members, Ms Fauzia Rizvi and Ms Bushra Bangee. Census representatives Ms Dina A. Duella and Mr Rashad Dabagh conducted the meeting which was also attended by many community leaders.
The census counts every person in the US. The US Constitution requires a census every 10 years.
It is important to be counted in the census as the results are used to:
1. Reapportion the House of Representatives
2. Redraw the boundaries of the congressional and state legislative districts
3. Determine how more than $675 billion are spent supporting vital programs.
The next census meeting will be held on Saturday, February 8th, beginning at 2 pm. Its location will be announced shortly. Please join us to get the word out. It's safe and it's needed. Let's get everyone counted!
