ICYL Plants Tree Honoring Victims of Covid-19

On Wednesday, June 10th, the  Islamic Center of Yorba Linda  (ICYL) conducted a tree planting ceremony of a California Oaktree to honor the victims of Covid-19, as well as front line medical professionals who risked personal well-being to assist the rest of the community. ICYL invited the mayors of Yorba Linda (Beth Haney), Placentia (Ward Smith), and Anaheim (Harry Sidhu). All three mayors spoke and gave their thoughts on where we all go from here as a community and how the collaboration amongst the three cities is another hopeful sign for the future. Mayor Sidhu mentioned he would take this idea back to Anaheim and find a place to plant a tree in his city to honor the victims of Covid-19. Shura Council Chairman, Owaiz M. Dadabhoy, and Executive Director, Malek Bendelhoum, both spoke on the occasion and represented the Shura Council and its members.

A handful of neighbors were invited to join the intimate ceremony along with former Yorba Linda mayors Tara Campbell and Gene Hernandez. Representatives from the Sikh Center of Orange County, Saint Martin de Porres Parish, North Orange County Interfaith Council, and County Supervisor Don Nelson's office were also in attendance.
