Popular Radio DJ Arif Memon Killed in Car Crash
Houston, TX: Arif Memon, a popular Houston radio DJ for radio station FM 106.1 and a very well-known member of the Pakistani American community, has been identified as the driver killed in a crash involving an 18-wheeler along the Southwest Freeway.
The crash happened Monday afternoon, authorities say. Memon was driving down the freeway in his car when he veered over and slammed into the back of a broken down 18-wheeler that had pulled over on the left shoulder.
After learning of the crash, Memon's co-workers at the radio station said that he was pure joy and described him as a shining light for everyone. The entire Pakistani-American community is in shock to hear of his passing and online tributes from across the community are pouring in for Memon after his sudden death.
Rehan Siddiqi, the owner of the radio station where Arif Memon presented a morning show, said, "I am unable to describe the deep pit in my stomach at the loss of my colleague, friend, and overall great person Arif Memon. In a split second he was snatched away from us. The community in Houston, my radio station, and the event production fraternity have lost one of our own and I’m just not able to reconcile with this fact. It’s not only difficult but debilitating to deal with this grave loss."
"He loved his family, he adored his two beautiful daughters," radio host Samia Adilo said. "We were looking forward to Ramadan ending and going to party after that."
It is still unclear how the crash that left Memon's car unrecognizable happened, but his attorney says they are looking into it.
