Eminent Scholar Dr Laleh Bakhtiar Passes away
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar passed away on Sunday, October 18 th, 2020 in Chicago. For past half century, Dr Bakhtiar pursued uniquely scholarly work related to Islam and Persian Studies. She authored, edited, and translated many books on Islamic Philosophy, Psychology and Spirituality; her crowning achievement was the publication of The Sublime Qur’an, the first English translation of the Qur’an by an American woman.
She was also at the forefront of the emerging scholarship on Islamic Psychology. As a Nationally Certified Counselor with doctorates in Psychology, Philosophy, and Education, her wealth of knowledge and experience was brought to bear with her most recent publication, Quranic Psychology of the Self: A Textbook on Islamic Moral Psychology.
She spent a large part of her professional career as a scholar-in-residence at Kazi Publications, a publishing house based in Chicago.
Dr Laleh Bakhtiar was laid to rest in Chicago. May Allah SWT bless her soul and reward her with a place in Janet-ul-Firdous for her scholarly work. Ameen.
