PakistanLink’s Editorial Piece Included in American University Syllabus
Religious Affinities or Animosities?* by Akhtar Mahmud Faruqui (Editor, Pakistan Link) has been added to the American University, Washington DC’s ‘World of Islam’ 2021 Syllabus for the upcoming Fall semester. It will be read by students and taught on August 31 as part of the introductory lesson for the course.
‘World of Islam’ is taught by Professor Akbar Ahmed, an eminent Pakistani-American academic, author, poet, playwright, filmmaker and former diplomat who has been described as “the world's leading authority on contemporary Islam” by the BBC. According to Prof Ahmed, Faruqui’s editorial note “ is a strong scholarly piece that examines the urgent issue of the clash of civilizations and explores the dialogue of civilizations, offering a convincing counterpoint to Huntington’s thesis.” Students in Prof Ahmed’s course include Christians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs who are guided to look rationally and humanely at the world.
Religious Affinities or Animosities? by Faruqui signifies a special status, one that is acknowledged in the syllabus of a class at a major American University.
Faruqui earlier has written for multilingual UNESCO and IAEA publications.
