Houston: Countries and leaders engage with each other at many different levels, the most important foreign policy decisions are typically made at the highest political spheres. Overseas visits by top officials provide unique insights into foreign policy priorities and the conduct of diplomacy.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar was recently in Houston and met overseas Pakistanis. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire for a broad-based partnership with the United States that would advance the two countries’ shared interests in regional spheres. He held meetings with the Houston community at Consul General Abrar Hashmi’s residence.
A high-level separate meeting was held to engage pivotal overseas Pakistani, Dr Mubashir Chaudhry, who underscored the importance of enhanced bilateral trade and economic cooperation to promote regional connectivity. Dr Chaudhry highlighted overseas Pakistan’s efforts for facilitating a shared responsibility towards Pakistan and the Muslim world and the key international stakeholders. He also thanked Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar for his invaluable contributions to regional philanthropy. Both acknowledged the huge potential for expanding the Pak-US relationship and agreed to work towards further enhancing the engagement of the overseas Pakistanis.
Highlighting the government’s emphasis on economic development and connectivity, Governor Punjab emphasized Pakistan’s desire for closer trade and investment ties with the successful and influential overseas Pakistanis.
Governor Punjab also met other overseas Pakistanis to apprise them of Pakistan's initiatives for peace under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan. He said issues of Palestine and Kashmir must be resolved immediately as per the UN resolutions and that all the political and religious parties of Pakistan, as well as 220 million Pakistanis, are united on the issues of Palestine and Kashmir.
