Commercial Release of Bob Ahmed’s Award-Winning Film at Laemmle Theater in LA
Washington, DC-based short film on homelessness, “Tikkun Olam”, which has won six BEST SHORT FILM awards on the 2021 film festival circuit will receive a 1-week commercial release at Laemmle theater in Los Angeles. Tikkun Olam” (2021) is a short, narrative, film about a good-hearted eight year old boy in Washington, DC who brings dignity and hope to a homeless veteran. The film was inspired by the director's own experiences while living in the nation’s capital, which has the highest homelessness rate in America. “Tikkun Olam” has an entirely DC-based cast and production crew, and features original music by visionary composer Kenneth Lampl .
About Bob Ahmed – Writer/Director of “Tikkun Olam”: Ahmed is a Washington DC-based filmmaker. He wrote and directed the feature film “Amka and The Three Golden Rules”, about a young boy in extreme poverty who is inspired by his uncle. The film was classified by Emirates Airlines as “one of the great movies from around the world” in their onboard playlist, and reviewed in major press as "Chilling" (Village Voice), “Stunning” (Plain Dealer), and "Memorable" (WCBE). The film also picked up awards at film festivals across the globe, including "The Special Jury Award For Bridging Cultures" at the Arizona International Film Festival. One of his feature length screenplays, "Lost in DC", is currently a finalist in the screenwriting competition at the upcoming 52nd Nashville Film Festival. Ahmed is one of the very few Pakistani-American directors, a Cambridge University graduate, and by personal background he is a Pashtun from the Swat valley of Pakistan, which is also the home of Malala Yousufzai.
