Customers Can Save when They Conserve Electricity
By Julia Roether
Although the first day of summer is still weeks away, it’s never too soon to start thinking about ways to save on your energy bill. To help residential customers save, Southern California Edison offers several programs that reward customers for conserving energy when the electricity grid needs it most.
Demand Response programs help ensure the effective operation of the electric grid during times of high-energy demand. They also offer different ways to conserve energy and save money, allowing customers to choose the program that works best for them.
Some of the program options include adjusting your home’s temperature upward by a few degrees with a smart thermostat; giving SCE permission to take control of your air-conditioning system to reduce use on specific days and times; and cutting back on overall energy use when the state calls a Flex Alert .
There’s no cost to enroll in any of the programs. And while customers may only enroll in one program, each provides savings when air-conditioning (one of the biggest energy hogs in the home) usage is reduced. Additionally, some of the programs offer an extra incentive for simply enrolling.
