AMMWEC Hosts Women-led International Religious Freedom Roundtables in Karachi & Peshawar
By Anila Ali

The lack of religious freedom is an issue plaguing most, and unfortunately, it disproportionately affects women and minorities. That is why AMMWEC has hosted two women-led International Religious Freedom (IRF) Roundtables in Karachi and Peshawar.
And that is why AMMWEC was a proud co-sponsor of the IRF Forum for the MENA region that took place the last week of October in Washington, DC.
The tragic death of Mahsa Amini sparked a wave of protests in Iran that captured the world's admiration. The Forum highlighted the Freedom Movement in Iran and covered other countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, and Turkey.
The Forum convened 120 faith and civil society leaders who shared stories of persecution and recommended concrete strategies and solutions for practitioners on the ground.
I am proud to share that AMMWEC board members Bushra Mateen, Aisha Bajwa, and Rana Syed co-led a workshop about the state of religious freedom in Pakistan. You may watch excerpts of the workshop here .
Additionally, one of the Peshawar roundtable participants, Wagma Feroz, shared a story of a Sikh professor who was discriminated against at her university. Click here to watch what inspired Wagma to become a religious freedom and women's activist.
There is darkness in this world, but, in moments like this, when leaders from different faiths come together to make the world a better place, I cannot help but see light and hope for the future.
AMMWEC is committed to peacebuilding, religious freedom, women’s rights, and advocating for global peace. However, this fight is not easy, and we need YOUR help. If you believe in our cause, please donate and help support our work.
May God bless you all.
