(Press Release: Longtime Citrus Heights resident seeks to give parents a greater voice on local school board
Citrus Heights, CA: Moe Sarama announced his candidacy for San Juan Unified School District (SJUSD), Area 7 on Sept 18 at the Sylvan Community Center in Citrus Heights. His campaign kickoff featured Citrus Heights Mayor Porsche Middleton and other community members who enthusiastically endorsed his candidacy.
“I have decided to run to represent parents’ perspective on the board and will work in collaboration with teachers, staff and the administration to benefit our kids,” said Sarama during the kickoff. “Earlier in the pandemic, I watched parents and educators alike rise to an unprecedented challenge. Everyone worked harder than ever to protect the education to which students are entitled. This deep commitment to the success and education of our children must be the foundation of all work taken on by the San Juan Unified School District Board.”
Sarama further noted that he is the only candidate for the trustee area that has kids enrolled in SJUSD. He moved with his family to Citrus Heights two decades ago to enroll his children in the district. His three daughters have since graduated while his son is still enrolled. He also prides himself on coming from a family of educators. Two of his sisters were schoolteachers in New York City while his older brother was a superintendent for one of that city’s largest school districts.
Prominent supporters of his candidacy include former SJUSD President Paula Villascaz, current SJUSD Vice President Zima Creason, Sacramento Municipal Utility District Board President Brandon Rose, Sacramento City Mayor Pro Tem Eric Guerra, among other elected leaders, educators and parents.

Ras Siddiqui adds : Brother Moe Sarama has been a known community builder and uniter in the Sacramento region for many years. It is great to see him running for a School Board position because he has always shown that he cares for the environment that we parents are raising our families in. Plus, the quality of education our kids are receiving and valuing our teachers are both very important to him. If elected, Moe would be a great asset to the San Juan School District Board.
