Sadequain Honored by the State Bank of Pakistan on its 75-Year Anniversary
On its 75-year anniversary, the State Bank of Pakistan issued a new 75-rupee note, which incorporates Sadequain’s rendition of the tall structure of the bank’s building in the most creative calligraphic strokes.
The newly issued 75-rupee note is a befitting tribute to the country’s most celebrated citizen which ensures his legacy for a long time to come.
In 1961, Sadequain painted his monumental mural titled Treasures of Time and several other murals and large paintings for the newly constructed headquarters of the State Bank of Pakistan. Those artworks, including the perspective view of the State Bank of Pakistan, are on permanent display at the State Bank of Pakistan’s museum in Karachi.
Sadequain designed the perspective view of the State Bank of Pakistan using exclusively calligraphic strokes in an ingenious manner. The vertical lines of the Arabic alphabets replicated the vertical steel and concrete columns of the building.
Established in 2007, SADEQUAIN Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to discovering, preserving, and promoting Sadequain’s art globally. To that end, the Foundation has published 25 books on Sadequain’s life and work and curated more than 100 seminars and exhibitions around the globe resulting in resurrection of Sadequain from obscurity. Dr Salman Ahmad founded the SADEQUAIN Foundation in San Diego, California, to catalog Sadequain’s work and introduce it to the world. He has authored 24 books on Sadequain.
