MPAC Welcomes the US National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism
Washington, DC: Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) welcomes the Biden-Harris Administration’s first-ever US National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism . This is a significant step towards combating the rise of Antisemitism in the United States. The recent increase in Antisemitic incidents is alarming and requires immediate attention.
“Antisemitism has been a scourge for centuries. The Muslim community understands the impact of hate crimes and discrimination, and we stand with the Jewish community in condemning all forms of hate,” says MPAC President, Salam Al-Marayati.
The American Muslim community is also struggling with a rise in incidents of hate crimes, most recently in Minnesota, which has seen six targeted attacks in less than six months. The rise in hate crimes towards both the Jewish and Muslim communities and their houses of worship are interconnected; both stem from extremist ideology and xenophobic rhetoric iterated by white supremacists. It is essential to recognize that hate crimes against any community are unacceptable and must be condemned.
The Biden-Harris Administration’s National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism is a significant step towards addressing this issue. The strategy aims to combat Antisemitism in all its forms, including Holocaust denial, and the use of Antisemitic tropes. The strategy also aims to promote education and awareness about Antisemitism and its impact on society, and emphasizes the importance of multi-faith community engagement towards combating Antisemitism and related forms of discrimination.
We also commend the Biden-Harris Administration for creating various online resources, such as the Prevention Resource Finder , as well as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Justice (DOJ) resource guide Protecting Places of Worship: Six Steps to Enhance Security Against Targeted Violence to aid threatened faith communities and their houses of worship against targeted violence.
MPAC, along with a broad coalition of other American Muslim organizations, is working with President Biden’s Interagency Group to Counter Antisemitism, Islamophobia, and Related Forms of Discrimination and Bias . We look forward to the implementation of a similar national strategy to combat Islamophobia. - MPAC
