On Tuesday, May 20, 2023, Shura Board Chair, DrAhmed Soboh and Board Member Deana Helmy, along with Akbar Husseini, Executive Director of the Newport Mesa Interfaith Council, attended the OC Sheriff’s Interfaith Council Quarterly Meeting.
OC Sheriff Don Barnes hosts regular council meetings to inform faith leaders of various issues taking place in the community.
This meeting was focused on teens and included a presentation by Sergeant Brian Gunsolley on emerging drug trends , paying special attention to the current fentanyl crisis . The Centers for Disease control offer this pdf fact sheet on the Dangers of Fentanyl . Additionally, Investigator Heather Timmons discussed teen cyber safety .
Both presentations were eye opening, and we look forward to bringing these presentations from the OC Sheriff’s Department to the upcoming General Body Meeting of the Council in September. - Shura Council |
