This incredible recognition was made possible through a partnership between MPAC and Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman, who has been a major supporter of this initiative.
“I’m so proud to have partnered with the Muslim Public Affairs Council in commemorating Ramadan by lighting up City Hall and the Sixth Street Bridge green for the full first week. MPAC has been a leading Muslim organization in Los Angeles for decades and has made our city a better place in which to live. I join MPAC in wishing a very blessed Ramadan Mubarak to those who celebrate.” -- Councilmember Nithya Raman
This is a momentous occasion for not only the Los Angeles Muslim community, but the American Muslim community as a whole. We are long overdue for this type of recognition, and this move serves as a testament to the city's commitment to promoting
diversity, respect, and understanding among all faiths and cultures. It also sets an example for other cities to follow suit. We are so grateful to have the City of Angels exhibit the angelic light of Ramadan in enveloping us with the spirit of mercy and compassion and generosity from our Creator. We need that now more than ever.
If you are able to get out and see the lights in person, please do so. In the meantime, you can enjoy a video of the City of Los Angeles lit up for Ramadan here .
In peace,
Salam Al-Marayati
