Ambassador Masood Khan Congratulates New APPNA President
By Elaine Pasquini

Washington: In a March 26, 2024, telephone call, Masood Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, extended his warm congratulations to Dr Asif Mohiuddin, the newly elected president of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA).

“Your election to this prestigious position is a recognition of your professional accomplishments over the years and I am confident that under your leadership APPNA will continue to grow and excel,” the ambassador told the doctor. “We look forward to the positive impact you will undoubtedly make during your tenure as president.”

Ambassador Khan praised the doctor’s passion for excellence and his “unwavering dedication to the mission of APPNA,” which will inspire the growing Pakistani-American community in the United States. “As you embark on this new role you will have our fullest cooperation,” he pledged.

In a statement earlier this year, Dr Mohiuddin, a practicing gastroenterologist in Orlando, Florida, explained that he wanted to be president of APPNA because he felt the organization needed to “launch in a new direction of innovation, research, and investment in technology.”

“I aim to gather the best people in APPNA and tap into our true potential,” Mohiuddin said. “I want to blur the divisions based on alumni lines and work to bring change to APPNA.”

Mohiuddin, who is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the Orlando, Florida, area, received his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1989.

APPNA, an American non-profit headquartered in Westmont, Illinois, is one of the largest medical organizations in the United States.

The ambassador praised the group for its commitment to serving the Pakistani-American community, for providing healthcare support to Pakistan, for its philanthropic and charitable initiatives across the globe, and for fostering unity among healthcare professionals.

He also paid tribute to APPNA’s outgoing president, Dr Arshad Rehab, for his “valuable contributions to the organization” during his tenure and wished Dr Mohiuddin success in his new leadership role.
