Prominent Physicist & Educator Professor Dr Feroz Ahmed Passes away in Karachi

Professor Dr Feroz Ahmed, a prominent educator, physicist, and researcher passed away in Karachi on Sunday, October 20, 2024 (Rabi-al-Thani 16, 1446 AH) .
He received his secondary and higher secondary education in Karachi, and then pursued higher education at the University of Karachi: obtaining a BSc (Hons) in 1966 and MSc (Nuclear Physics) in 1967. In 1973 he received his MSc (Experimental Nuclear Physics) from the Australian National University, Canberra, and in 1989, his PhD (Renewable Energy) from the University of Karachi.
He served at the Department of Physics, University of Karachi, in various capacities: Lecturer (1967-1975), Assistant Professor (1975-1985), Associate Professor (1989-1993), and Professor (1993-2006). Presently he was serving as an adjunct Professor in the Physics Department.
During his tenure at the Department of Physics he promoted intellectual and cultural activities. His research interests were in areas of Solar and Wind Energy. Professor Feroz Ahmed was a very humble and helpful person. He enjoyed mentoring his students and peers. Dr Feroz supervised a number of graduate dissertations and projects and wrote more than 30 research papers. He was a member of a number of professional societies and attended several national and international conferences.
Professor Feroz Ahmed’s demise is a great loss for the academia. He belonged to a rare and very dedicated group of academics who completed their studies in Physics at the University of Karachi during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, and went to overseas centers of excellence for higher studies, then returned to Pakistan and served in various capacities all over the country.
May Allah SWT bless his soul and assign him the highest station in Janet-ul-Firdous for his outstanding efforts and accomplishments in educating the youth of Pakistan. Ameen.
