Akbar Ahmed, an eminent Hallian (1953-1959), is currently the Distinguished Professor and Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American University, Washington, DC. A former diplomat and High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, he is also an author, poet, playwright, and filmmaker. He has been honored with the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, Sitara-i-Imtiaz, and the Sir Percy Sykes Memorial Medal. Recognized as one of The Muslim 500: The World's Most Influential Muslims, his contributions to peace, human rights, and cultural relations are globally celebrated.
