Spending a Few Delightful Moments at the Washington Airport
By Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai

It was a joyful moment to meet Sardar Zubair Khan Sahib and his wife at the Dulles International Airport in Washington. The two were on their way to perform Umrah in the holy city of Makkah. They also had a plan to visit the Masjid-e-Nabawi in Medina Munawarah, a long-cherished dream of every Muslim. May this spiritual journey of Zubair Sahib and Bhabi Sahiba bring boundless joy, happiness, and tranquility to their extended families! Ameen.

While talking about Sardar Zubair Khan Sahib, it would be an injustice if I did not mention the commitment and dedication he has shown towards the cause of Kashmir. His generosity can be measured both by the size of his kindness and, more importantly, by the size of his heart. It would be wrong if I did not include Bhabi (his wife) in this category too.

By profession. Zubair Sahib is a businessman who opened more than eight restaurants in the Washington metropolitan area since the 1980s. I have personally attended large gatherings at his restaurants which he organized for Kashmir cause and never charged a dim from anyone. The guests have included Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Sahib, Barrister Sultan Mehmood Choudhary, and many others.

I also know about some high-profile guests who came from Azad Kashmir in the 1990s and stayed at times in the hotel for weeks, Zubair Sahib never let them pay their hotel bills.

The Kashmiri American community of the Washington metropolitan area is blessed to have leaders among us like Zubair Sahib. We are proud of you, Zubair Sahib and Bhabi Sahiba. Please do make Du’a for us and also for the oppressed people of Gaza, Kashmir, and elsewhere! Ameen.
