SADEQUAIN's Masterpiece First Published in France Available for the First Time in Pakistan
This book titled Albert Camus’ The Stranger (by) SADEQUAIN represents a remarkable achievement by Sadequain. He was chosen by a jury of elites to pictorially illustrate the most famous novel by Nobel Laureate Albert Camus titled L’ Étranger (The Stranger). Sadequain prepared more than 150 lithographs illustrating the complex story of the novel. In the final version of the book, twenty-five color lithographs were included in addition to several black and white illustrations. The remaining lithographs were auctioned (sold) by the publisher of the book, Automobile Club of France, at a lavish book-launching ceremony held at Palace de la Concord in Paris.
Despite being an extraordinary accomplishment by Sadequain, his masterpiece work was never available in his home country of Pakistan. In fact, it was never documented in any publication in Pakistan. Although, Sadequain is the most talked-about and most written-about artist of Pakistan, yet eminent scholars ignored mentioning The Stranger because they lacked research and scholarship.
SADEQUAIN Foundation has finally done justice to Sadequain and documented his lithographs illustrating The Stranger. Image; the limited edition original version of the book published by the Automobile Club of France was launched with fanfare at Palace de la Concorde in Paris and its rare copies, if available, sell for upwards of fifteen thousand US dollars ($15,000). |
