
Film on Josh Malihabadi to Be Screened on May 31
A feature film on the life and work of poet Josh Malihabadi will be screened at Horizon Community Center auditorium in Irvine on May 31, 2025, at 3 PM. The screening will be followed by a reception with the filmmaker Fahim Hamid Ali in attendance.
Admission is free but pre-registration is necessary.
The film has been produced and directed by a Toronto-based Pakistani filmmaker and has been screened earlier in Lahore, Karachi, New Delhi, London, Paris, Toronto, and Houston during the past two years.
Josh Malihaabadi is among the most distinguished Urdu poets of the 20th century. He is known for his mastery of language with few parallels. He opposed British rule in the Indian subcontinent and was given the title of "Shair-e-Inqilab "
The program is under the banner of a FREE URDU POETRY website which has a large online treasure of both classical and modern Urdu poetry.
The website provides full length pieces of poetry in three scripts and explanatory translation in English with meaning of unfamiliar Urdu words.
The site also contains oral rendition of poetry, and in most cases, has musical rendition of ghazals by famous artists.
