
Dar Holds Meetings at United Nations and US State Department

Washington, DC: Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar arrived in New York City on May 26, 2026, for a three-day visit.
On his first day, the minister participated in a high-level UN Security Council Open Debate on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-Centered International System,” being held under China’s presidency of the Security Council, chaired by Foreign Minister Wang Yi, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
He also participated in the meeting of the Group of Friends on Global Governance, chaired by Foreign Minister Wang Yi of China. The theme was “Reforming and Improving Global Governance, Working Together to Address Global Challenges.”
While expressing strong support for China’s Global Governance Imitative, Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, called for reforming of global governance structures and emphasized the centrality of the United Nations in the international system.

On the sidelines of the debate, Dar held a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts as well as the UN leadership to discuss mutual relations, regional developments, and cooperation at the multilateral level.
His engagements included meetings with the following international leaders:
Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov of Azerbaijan;
Foreign Minister Manuel Tovar of Costa Rica and Rebeca Grynspan;
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres;
Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani of Bahrain;
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla of Cuba;
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Petr Macinka of the Czech Republic; and
Foreign Minister Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio of Colombia.
In the evening, Senator Dar attended a dinner hosted by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations with Ambassadors/Permanent Representatives of various Arab-Islamic and European countries.
On May 29, 2026, the foreign minister visited Washington, DC, where he met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to review bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and global developments, including Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace through diplomacy and dialogue.
The visit reflects Pakistan’s commitment to further deepening its longstanding and broad-based partnership with the United States.
