LHC appointments: CJ completes consultation

LAHORE: Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC), Justice Aijaz Ahmed Chaudhry has completed consultation for the appointment of new judges for LHC, Geo News reported Saturday.

The CJ LHC will forward his recommendations for the recruitment to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan next week.

Presently 32 judges are appointed against 60 positions in LHC. Out of these, four senior judges on permanent posts remain deposed due to contempt of court.

Twenty four judges are discharging duties as additional judges on principal seats of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Bahawalpur benches.

Only urgent cases are being entertained in LHC due to the shortage of judges while hearing of reference and notice cases continue to remain halted for the past many months.

According to sources, appointment of more than a dozen new additional judges will be undertaken for LHC.
