Court allows FIA to check bank accounts of suspects in Hajj case

ISLAMABAD: Sessions Judge Uzma Akhtar Chughtai on Friday granted permission to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to check 21 bank accounts of five persons, including former minister of state for religious affairs Shagufta Jumani, Religious Ministry Secretary Agha Qazilbash and three relatives of Hajj former director general Rao Shakeel, who were allegedly involve in the Hajj corruption scandal.
On Friday, FIA submitted an application under section 94 CrPC to grant them permission to check the banking records of Shagufta Jumani, the Religious Ministry secretary, Hajj former DG’s brother-in-law Nadeem Khan, and his relatives M Aleem Khan and M Waseem Khan.
An FIA Special Investigation Unit (SIU) official, through the application, said that the Hajj corruption case was a suo motu case no 24/2010, and an FIR vide no 5 /201 of PS SIU Islamabad had been registered against Shakeel.
He said that these people had been operating bank accounts since 2007 through different banks in Islamabad.
According to the application, Nadeem Khan had 11 bank accounts in the F-8/3 branch and the F-7/2 branch of Allied Bank Limited (ABL). The account numbers were 112002342-9, 150860005-9, 30860006-5, 20860005-6, 12004107-5, 12003939-3, 12003920-2, 30880066-6, 150860007-0, 12003207-3 and 11008500-8.
Shagufta Jumani had one account in the Summit Bank Limited, Qazilbash had an account in the National Bank’s, Prime Minister Secretariat branch.
M Aleem Khan had seven accounts in the F-8/3 and F-7/2 branch branches of ABL. The account numbers were 12620099-2, 20860023-8, 12004220-5, 12003911-1, 12003902-0, and 12003901-9 and 12003413-7.
Muhammad Waseem Khan had one account in ABL’s F-8/3 branch.
The sessions’ judge was also informed that to get concrete evidence against the suspects it was necessary to get details of the accounts.
The judge allowed the FIA to get the records of these accounts.
