RAWALPINDI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC), hearing the Benazir Bhutto murder case, on Saturday summoned Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director Wajid Zia for non-compliance of red warrants of former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf on the next hearing. The case hearing was held at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. ATC Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed is hearing the case of BB assassination and the court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants thrice of Musharraf on his addresses in Islamabad and London. The court, in his remarks said, if this trend of non-implementation of the arrest warrants continued, action could be taken against the FIA director. The asked the FIA director to appear before the court and explain the reasons for delay in the implementation of the summons. On a query, the court was informed that no reply has been received from the Foreign Ministry about the implementation of the summons and the Pakistani High Commission in London was making efforts to implement the court orders.
The court expressed its displeasure over the delay and ordered Wajid Zia to appear before it on April 9. While talking to media, FIA Prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar said that previous report of the British High Commission about the compliance of red warrants of Musharraf was presented before the court. As per the report, no formal extradition treaty existed between Pakistan and the UK, therefore, arrest warrants of Musharraf could not be executed. He said that former city SHO Kashif Riaz, the subordinate of CPO Saud Aziz and plaintiff in FIR of the Benazir murder case, was trying to flee from the country, and Punjab police had recommended sending the SHO abroad. He said that they would appeal to the government to put Riaz’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL) so that he could not flee the country. app
