ZAB case being reopened to rectify a historic wrong: PM

* Gilani says investigation by United Nations’ commission into assassination of Benzair was to ensure credibility

GARHI KHUDA BUX: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that the opening of the case of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto (ZAB) was aimed at rectifying a historical wrong.

Talking to newsmen here after paying his respects at the mausoleum of members of the Bhutto family, Gilani said, “The decision to re-open the case was taken by PPP co-chairperson, Asif Ali Zardari, myself, the federal cabinet and the National Assembly.”

He said that judges who pronounced execution of ZAB had, later, admitted that they did so under intense pressure from a military dictator.

He said a probe by the United Nations’ (UN) commission into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto (BB) was conducted to ensure credibility and dig out the facts. “The UN probe was conducted as BB had desired so, after the first attempt on her life in Karachi.” The prime minister said the government would continue to pursue the policy of reconciliation in order to find an amicable solution to the situation in Karachi.

He said that all the parties should sit together and find a way to end lawlessness in the city permanently. app
