LHC allows Law Ministry to inspect ZAB case record

LAHORE: Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry, on Monday, allowed the federal Law Ministry to inspect the record of the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case. An application was submitted to the LHC Registrar, Abdus Sattar Asghar, stating that “a presidential reference has been filed in the Supreme Court to revisit the decades old verdict in the ZAB case” which, according to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), was a judicial murder. The government, in the application, requested the LHC to allow it to inspect the ZAB case record so that it could assist the apex court in a better manner. Upon this, the LHC registrar sought approval of the chief justice, who allowed the application. Senior consultant of the Law Ministry, Arif Chaudhry, will inspect the record today (Tuesday). In March 1978, a five-judge LHC bench, headed by the then chief justice Maulvi Mushtaq Ahmad, had awarded death sentence to Bhutto. staff report
