LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry has ordered the Punjab government to constitute an inquiry commission to probe into the doctors' strike and deaths of patients during it, Geo News reported.
'Tax payer money is spent on doctors' education then why did they play with lives?' CJ asked.
The LHC CJ came hard on the Punjab government for mishandling the issue of young doctors strike, observing that the government had completely failed to handle the issue.
Hearing a writ petition against doctors strike, the CJ observed that the mishandling of the issue had led to many deaths besides causing great inconvenience to the general public.
Chief Secretary Punjab Nasir Khosa informed the court that the provincial government was ready to accept the demands but it would take time because the pay increase would cost exchequer Rs 26 billion annually.
The CJ then adjourned the hearing for a month and instructed to brought all those responsible to the book.
