SCBA president concerned over threats made to Barrister Azfar
LAHORE: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jahangir has expressed concern and took serious notice of the threats made to Barrister Kamal Azfar. In a statement, she said, “I expect the president and the prime minister to take notice of the incident and rein in their political spin masters as well as tender an apology to Kamal Azfar”. She warned that the SCBA would not tolerate any act of intimidation against its members by the government or its cronies. The SCBA president said Azfar is a senior advocate who discharged his professional duties while engaged in the NRO case and as a professional lawyer he is bound by professional ethics. She added any attempt to pressurise or threaten a lawyer in the discharge of his responsibilities was totally unacceptable. She said the bar would watch the investigation closely and stand by any colleague who receives any form of threat from any quarter. staff report
