‘People of Indo-Pak want peaceful Kashmir solution’
ISLAMABAD: People of Pakistan and India share the same opinion of peaceful resolution of all issues, including the outstanding Kashmir issue, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Wednesday.
He said this while talking to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Raja Zulqarnain Khan, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House. Prime Minister Gilani apprised Khan of his meeting with the Indian political leadership.
“During the recent meeting in Mohali, I discussed all issues, including Kashmir with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi,” Gilani said.
The prime minister said that the resolution of the dispute in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations and the wishes of the Kashmiri people could help efforts for peace and economic prosperity of the South Asian region. Gilani said that development of AJK was a top priority of his government. Continuity of the democratic process and strengthening of institutions will be a step towards the development of AJK, he added. The AJK president in the meeting also discussed matters relating to the compensation and resettlement of families displaced due to the raising of the Mangla Dam.
He told Gilani that test filling of Mangla Dam to its full capacity in the near future was crucial keeping in view the expiry date of the contractor’s liability by the end of this year.
Khan invited Gilani to AJK to inaugurate campuses of the King Abdullah University in Muzaffarabad and Rawalkot. He also asked the prime minister for provision of gas supply for the Mirpur industrial area. The AJK president also briefed Gilani about the progress on the ongoing development projects. app
