HKSCA, PCCU to host discussion for BB documentary
By: Raja Zahid KhanzadaHOSTON: As part of the HoustonPBS Community Cinema Series, Channel 8, in partnership with the Houston-Karachi Sister City Association and the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce USA, is hosting a free preview screening and panel discussion of the documentary, Bhutto, at Rice Cinema on Wednesday, April 27 at 7:00 p.m.
Immediately after the screening, Emmy award-winning journalist, Patricia Gras, will moderate a panel discussion featuring internationally-acclaimed author, Bapsi Sidhwa and University of St. Thomas professor, Javed Ashraf.
A portrait of one of the most fascinating and complex figures of our time, Bhutto is the epic tale of the life and tragic death of Benazir Bhutto, who broke the Islamic glass ceiling as the first woman prime minister of a Muslim country.
Beloved by the people of her native Pakistan, she was reviled by the nation’s military establishment and male-dominated ruling class.
More than two years after her death from a suicide bomber, Benazir remains a divisive figure, a symbolic metaphor for the fight between terrorism and moderation. Bhutto will premiere nationally on the PBS series Independent Lens on May, 10, 2011 at 10:00 PM.
