Constructive engagement with India vital for good ties: PM
* Gilani says Pakistan wants comprehensive, broad-ranging engagement with India
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Tuesday that constructive engagement with India was vital for both the countries to move towards the goal of establishing good neighbourly relations.
Talking to Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir and Commerce and Trade Secretary Zafar Mahmood at the Prime Minister’s House, Gilani said that Pakistan wanted to move towards a comprehensive and broad-ranging engagement with India on the basis of equality, mutual trust, interest and respect.
Gilani asked the commerce secretary to take on board all the stakeholders for establishment of mutually beneficial trade relations with India.
The commerce secretary informed the prime minister that Pakistan-India trade volume was around $2 billion and 1946 items were being traded between the two countries. He also discussed details of the talk’s agenda with the prime minister.
The two secretaries had called on the prime minister to discuss the forthcoming trade talks between Pakistan and India. app
