Bhutto reference filed in SC not to take revenge from anyone: Zardari
* President claims PPP achieved significant achievements on all fronts
* Asks PPP workers to reach out to voters ahead of next elections
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has no intentions to seek revenge from anybody by sending the reference in the ZAB case to the Supreme Court (SC), but the party only wanted to rectify a historical wrong.
Addressing the party parliamentarians and office bearers from Gujranwala division at the Presidency Wednesday night, he said, “We have had no smooth sailing and despite negative propaganda against the government and the party, we have not only survived but waded through gigantic challenges successfully and achieved significant achievements on all fronts.”
Later, briefing the journalists, spokesman to the president, Farhatullah Babar, quoting the president, said that PPP would continue the march forward and conquer all the challenges. He said the president said that in the next two years PPP had to reach out to the people and also make new political alignments.
The president urged the party parliamentarians and office-bearers to dedicate themselves to the welfare of people, as their performance during their stint in the office will determine the party’s position in the next general elections.
“He reiterated firm resolve of the government and the party to serve the country and the masses with full dedication and putting the country back on the track of progress,” Babar informed reporters.
The president said that the PPP had now entered the election mode and asked party workers and MPs to increase contacts with voters of their respective constituencies.
He said that the PPP, being the major political force and equally popular in all parts of the country, would continue to work for strengthening the democratic institutions, besides restoring law and order and economic stability in the country. The president said that people had reposed great confidence in the party. “We all should struggle both individually and collectively to rise to their expectations and could proudly face the voters in the next elections,” he said.
He said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari would take up some political responsibility in September this year.
The spokesperson said that there was also a discussion on the results of by-elections in Punjab and the lessons learnt from it. “The president asked the party workers and office bearers to analyse the results of each and every by-election with a view to drawing lessons from it and enabling themselves to prepare for future electoral contests in an effective manner,” Babar elaborated. The president said that a party in a way was just like an individual and added that the greater its inner strength, the stronger is its ability to approach its weakness with courage and hope. app
