PPP formally invites PML-Q to join government
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) formally invited Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) to join the government. PML-Q has accepted the invitation which is expected to be announced by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani after concluding his visit of France, sources said.
Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Ilahi's met with President Asif Ali Zardari on a dinner reception here at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
According to sources, the meeting mulled over formation of coalition government in federation, featuring induction of PML-Q's ministers and other political issues are under discussion.
Sources said that there was unanimity at the meeting that all political forces should be taken along in line with the policy of reconciliation to meet the challenges facing the country. It was also decided that the process of dialogue and consultation would continue with all political parties.
Earlier Thursday, the parliamentary party of the PML-Q had given a green signal to party president, Chaudhry Shujaat, to make the final decision on forming an alliance with the PPP. The decision was taken in a meeting of the PML-Q parliamentary party, chaired by Chaudhry Shujaat at his residence.
According to sources, some voices at the meeting raised concerns that the coalition may fail. Senator Naeem Hussain Chatta, Senator Jamal Leghari, Marvi Memon and a few other parliamentarians opposed the possible deal with the PPP while the majority of parliamentarians were in favour of joining the government.
Amid meeting with President Zardari, Shujaat Hussain said that the final decision would be announced after PML-Q's party meeting later on.
He said all party members would be taken under confidence before announcement of PML-Q's becoming part of coalition government in center.
