PAF ready to meet all challenges: air chief marshal

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, chief of the air staff, Pakistan Air Force (PAF), said on Thursday that the air force is fully aware of the prevailing situation and is ready to meet all challenges facing the country.

“Weapons are necessary tools to wage war. But, it is the unwavering courage, strong motivation and highest standards of training of the human resource that brings success or failure in any conflict,” said the PAF chief while addressing a graduation and commissioning ceremony of GD(P), engineering, air defence and administration and special duties courses at the PAF Academy at Risalpur on Thursday.

Suleman, who was the chief guest at the ceremony, averred that Pakistan was a peace-loving country and its mission was to maintain peace in the region.

“Today, we live in uncertain times when the nation faces many internal as well as external threats. We do not wish to accumulate weapons but want to develop capabilities required to deter and defeat all internal and external threats and face all challenges that the nation confronts today,” added the PAF chief.

He said the PAF had proliferated state-of-the-art weaponry and its modernisation drive was on track. However, he added, “Our endeavour is to develop capabilities that are required to defeat internal and external threats.” He further said that the successful operations against terrorists had undoubtedly proved that the Pakistani military had the will and capability to fulfil its obligations.

Earlier, the PAF chief awarded trophies, flying badges and branch insignias to the graduating officers and aviation cadets. He also reviewed the parade and presented the Quaid-e-Azam banner to a squadron.

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Trophy for best performance in general service training in college of flying training was awarded to Pilot Officer Rana Ehsan Ashfaq, while pilot Kamran Zia lifted the trophy for best performance in general service training in college of aeronautical engineering.
