Pakistan working to improve international relations: PM Gilani
BOAO, CHINA: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said Pakistan has paid heavy price of international politics as the country had to make challenging decisions. He said Pakistan is working to bring improvement in international relations including with India, Geo News reported.
Prime Minister Gilani was addressing the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA). He stressed on the importance of regional cooperation in improving the economic condition of the country.
PM Gilani said being a new democracy, Pakistan faces many challenges and due to the same reason, the government had to make critical decisions.
On Sunday, PM Gilani joined world leaders and leading businessmen at a banquet hosted by the Secretary-General of the BFA.
The Prime Minister interacted with the Chinese Executive Vice Premier Li Keqiang and the Governor of Hainan Province at the banquet.
Other dignitaries who attended the event included the Prime Ministers of Italy and Kazakhstan, Iranian Vice President, the Vice Premiers of Thailand and Vietnam, and the Vice President of Taiwan.
The Prime Minister also gave an interview to China Radio International on Sunday in which he stressed that drone attacks had created misunderstandings between the Pakistani people and the US.
The prime minister said that Pak-US relations would be decided through the recommendations of parliament and would be based on mutual respect and interest.
Gilani said the government had united religious and political parties against terrorism and extremism.
He expressed hope that the Asian countries would enhance cooperation and expand their partnerships to achieve the goal of shared progress and prosperity.
The Prime Minister said Asian countries should use platforms like Boao Forum for in-depth cooperation.
Gilani said the world is going through change and it faced an economic crisis which affected many countries. He said despite difficult economic conditions, the performance of the Asian countries was impressive.
The Prime Minister said the Asian countries can expand and deepen cooperation in the fields of energy, culture, science, technology and education.
Gilani stressed that the Pakistani government always attached great importance to the Boao Forum and President Zardari also participated in it.
Gilani hoped that during the activities of the Boao Forum, the Asian leaders would sit together and seek common development strategy.
