Increase in prices of petrol, CNG condemned
RAWALPINDI: People belonging to different walks of life condemned increase in prices of POL products and CNG, saying that it will bring a flood of inflation for them.
They said petrol and CNG prices are increased by the government without considering problems of poor people, who are already living from hand to mouth.
As per official notifications, the petrol price has been raised by Rs8.02 per litre with its new price of Rs105.08 per litre, high speed diesel price increased by Rs4.70 per litre to 108.10 per litre, HOBC by Rs8.94 per litre to Rs135.81 per litre, kerosene oil by Rs5.29 per litre to Rs101.69 per litre and LDO by Rs5.45 per litre to Rs98.74 per litre. Similarly, government also massively increased CNG prices by Rs9.93 and Rs11.58 per kilogram.
According to a notification, Ogra increased CNG prices in Region-I (KP, Potohar and Balochistan) by Rs11.58 per kilogram owing to which the new CNG price stands at Rs88.70 per kilogram there. In Region-II (Sindh and Punjab) the government has increased the price of CNG by Rs9.93 per kilogram so the CNG will now be available at Rs80.89 per kilogram in the region.
With the announcement of hike in petrol and CNG transporters plying vehicles on long routes have increased fare by Rs20 per head without the permission from the concerned government authorities. While some shopkeepers and vendors also raised prices of their items including food items, vegetables, fruits, milk etc here on Sunday. All taxicabs and rickshaws have increased their fares and demanding money at their will citing the increase in petrol and CNG price hike.
All Pakistan Oil Tankers Association and All Pakistan Truck and Trailer Association rejected present increase in prices of POL products and CNG. Association’s President Shaikh Muhammad Saddique warned that the public would face 15 to 20 per cent more inflation due to the increase in prices of petrol and CNG.
While talking to ‘The News,’ people belonging to different walks of life said that the hike in prices would only and only affect the common man. Transporters would increase fares, vegetable, fruit, chicken and milk sellers would also increase rates according to increase of POL and CNG prices, but, where helpless public would go and how they would recover their losses, people said.
