‘World community worried over Karachi situation’
KARACHI: International community has also shown its concern over law and order situation in Karachi as the British Deputy High Commissioner, Francis Cambell separately called on leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National (ANP) in Karachi to discuss the city situation.
“The international community is much worried about peace in Karachi, it want to see peace in the city and will make its efforts in this regard”, a press release issued by the ANP quoted British diplomat as saying during his meeting with the ANP leader Shahi Syed. Cambell called on the ANP leader at the Mardan House.
Earlier he held a meeting with the MQM leadership at the party’s headquarters Nine-Zero. Central leaders of MQM Dr Farooq Sattar, Nasreen Jalil, Kunwar Khalid Younis, Syed Mustafa Kamal and others attended the meeting. According to ANP press release, Syed informed the British diplomat about his party’s efforts in restoration of peace in the city. He said that the party would welcome every effort to be made for maintaining peace in the Karachi.
He also informed the British diplomat that his party had given more sacrifices in war on terror in this region, and the international community should extend its help in their struggle against extremism. According to the press release, the British diplomat acknowledged the ANP role in war against terror and extremism.
According to a press release issued by the MQM, political, economic, financial circumstances and other issues of mutual interests came under discussion during the meeting. “Campbell expressed grave concern over recent incidents of terrorism in Karachi and extended condolences on the killings of the MQM and Muhajir sympathisers”, the MQM’s press release stated. He also expressed his sorrow and sympathies over the killings, it added. staff report
