Load shedding will end before elections: Zardari

* President slams PML-N leadership

* Says PPP will continue policy of reconciliation

By Kashif Hussain

LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari said on Friday the PPP-led government would do its best to fulfil its commitment of providing roti, kapra and makan to people and end load shedding before the next general elections.

The president met PPP provincial, district and women’s wing office-bearers and party’s previous ticket-holders at the Governor’s House.

Zardari said that he was fully equipped and ready to face challenges of the PML-N.

Sources said the president was unhappy with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif’s behaviour towards the PPP.

Zardari said the PPP’s policy of reconciliation should not be considered a weakness of the party, the sources said, adding that the president also said that he was following the policy of reconciliation in the “greater interest of the nation”.

“Zaradri said that although he knew how to control the PML-N’s exploitation, he would continue following the policy of reconciliation,” the sources said.

They said the president had a busy day and held separate meetings with party workers. The sources quoted Zardari as telling party office-bearers that those who had lost elections should not lose their hearts and take these defeats as a political lessen.

“President Zardari also said that the PML-N has crossed its limits and rulers of Punjab have become proud for their achievements,” the sources said.

“Zardari said that the PPP had sacrificed for the restoration and uplift of democracy and it would continue its policy of reconciliation following the vision of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.”

According to the sources, the president also said that he would represent the PPP in every division of Punjab before the general elections and would remain in contact with party workers.

The president, who is also co-chairman of the PPP, also held a meeting with party’s information secretaries from different districts of the province.

President Zardari assured the workers that he would start visiting Punjab on a monthly basis, adding that he would first visit southern Punjab at the end of this month. He also called politics by the PML-N “a politics of revenge and hollow slogans”.

According to sources, Zardari said that his party did not believe in the politics of “Changa Manga”.

“That is why the PPP did not do such politics against the PML-N in 2008. It, instead, supported the PML-N in Punjab when the opponents were not in position to maintain their government in the province,” the sources quoted Zaradri as telling PPP office-bearers.

Zardari said that all conspiracies against his government would be foiled and it would complete its constitutional tenure of five years. The president was also confident that the PPP would secure a victory in the next general elections and establish its government with the support of ally parties, the sources said.

Zardari also said that general elections would be held on time. He also held a meeting with senior journalists.
