SC rejects requests for meeting Muslim convert females
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday disallowed two requests made for meeting with Muslim convert females, currently staying at a shelter house in Karachi under the court's order of March 26 passed with a view to enable them to take a decision for their future independently and in free atmosphere.
The three-member comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez dismissed applications moved by Naveen Shah, alleged husband of Rinkle Kumari (Faryal Bibi), and the parents of Dr Lata (Hafsa Bibi).
The Chief Justice refused to accept requests by saying that no one would be allowed to meet the girls.
He told the counsel for parties that the main case would be taken up on April 18.
During previous proceedings, the bench in its order had observed that though undoubtedly both girls, Faryal Bibi (Rinkle Kumari) and Hafsa Bibi (Dr Lata), had performed Nikkah and joined their husbands but there were allegations of forced conversion.
It said that apparently there was a lot of pressure upon both girls from the parents and courts, so after recording their statements in camera, they were of the opinion that they required time, free from the pressures and take a decision for their future.
The bench allowed the girls to stay for further three weeks in the shelter house named 'Panah' owned by Majeeda Rizvi, a senior lawyer.
The bench was hearing a constitutional petition moved by the Pakistan Hindu Council.
Dr Ramesh Kumar, patron-in-chief, Pakistan Hindu Council, had moved the petition about recovery of three females belonging to the Hindu community including Rinkle daughter of Nandlal (Mirpur Mathello), Dr Lata daughter of Dr Ramesh (Jacobabad) and Asha (Larkana). (APP)
