Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman ends PCNS boycott

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief, Fazl-ur-Rehman withdrew from his position taken earlier on Wednesday and ended his boycott to attend the proceedings of Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS), Geo News reported.

Announcing to end his boycott of PCNS proceedings, Maulana Fazlu-ur-Rehman said he would attend the PCNS meeting and present his viewpoint in regard to the restoration of Nato supply.

Earlier today, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman during his meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari had reaffirmed his stance to continue boycotting the proceedings of PCNS.

But, the JUI-F Chief later took a U-turn and made the announcement to end his boycott, saying however that he still held on firmly to his stance in connection with the Nato supplies. "Our stance is purely in the interest of the country," he added.

Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman said he was against transportation of arms in the garb of Nato supplies.

He said he would attend the PCNS meeting scheduled for Thursday and present his reservations in regard to the reopening of Nato supply route.

The JUI-F had been on a boycott of the proceedings of the PCNS which has almost finalized its recommendations in connection with the Nato supply and new terms of engagements with the US.

On Tuesday, US Ambassador Cameron Munter had also met the JUI-F leader to discuss the matter of Nato supplies.
