Siachen tragedy: Rescue operation continues

RAWALPINDI: Despite weather hazards, the rescue operation at Gyari Sector continues at five priority points. SPD teams, Army Search & Rescue Teams, using heavy equipment are participating in the rescue efforts.

A 450 meter long access track has been developed after digging through 40 feet of snow. Work on another access tracks has also begun to widen search perimeter.

Heavy Machinery has been deployed at two points. 2 Bulldozers, 2 Earthmover's, 2 Dumper Trucks and 2 Excavators have been brought in from Islamabad.

The three other points are being dug by infantry troops using hand tools, and call for assistance of Heavy Machinery when needed.

A Dozer has been employed to restore the water channel, which has been blocked due to the avalanche.

At present two exits are available with 20 and 15 cusecs of discharge, while efforts are under-way to enhance the water flow.
