Sharifs send Rs 20b defamatory notice to Younas Habib
LAHORE: The lawyer of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif has sent legal notices for damages of Rs 10 billion each to the former Mehran Bank president for defamation of character. It has been stated in the notices that Younas Habib levelled fabricated and unsubstantiated allegations to damage the political and social standing of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. In the notices served through Cornelius, Lane and Mufti Advocates and Solicitors, it has been stated that Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif are respectable and highly revered citizens of the country and the former has served twice as prime minister of the country while the latter has twice been the chief minister of Punjab. “Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif during their tenures took steps for the supremacy of law in the country, ensuring sovereignty and strengthening of national economy as well as utilised all resources for the welfare of the masses,” the notices read. “Younas Habib tried to conduct media trial of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif by levelling false and slanderous allegations for damaging their political and social status.” It has been stated that Habib gave contradictory statements on media and changed his stance again and again “which is a proof of his being a liar”. Habib should tender a formal apology in the print and electronic media within 14 days of the receipt of the legal notice “otherwise legal proceedings will be initiated against him seeking damages of a minimum of Rs 10 billion each”, the notices said. pr
