Pakistan ambassador to US Sherry given status of federal minister
ISLAMABAD: The government has accorded status of full federal minister to the country's Ambassador to the United States Sherry Rehman with immediate effect.
She will be the first ambassador in about 30 years who will be bestowed the status.
Sherry Rehman journalist-turned-politician was federal minister and sitting member of the National Assembly late last year when she was picked for appointment as ambassador in Washington in place of Hussain Haqqani who had to step down in the wake of memo scam.
Sherry's predecessor was a political appointee but he was ambassador in BPS grade 22.
Another celebrated non-career diplomat Dr Maleeha Lodhi was enjoying the status of Minister of State (MOS) when she was ambassador in Washington. She also served as Pakistan's high commissioner in the United Kingdom till four years ago.
