Govt likely to get PCNS proposals approved with majority today
ISLAMABAD: The government is likely to get approved the revised draft of recommendations about new terms of engagement with the US with a large majority on Thursday (today), Daily Times has learnt from sources. In a meeting of the coalition parties at the Presidency on Tuesday night, the government decided to get adopted the revised draft of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security at all costs. Sources said the meeting decided that if any of the political forces opposed the final draft then it should be approved on the basis of majority decision. The Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has already pulled out from the PCNS and said the government had decided to resume NATO supplies. President Asif Zardari met JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman on Wednesday to convince him to end his boycott of the committee and to revise his decision on the NATO supplies. After the meeting, the cleric ended boycott of the PCNS. On the other hand, Fazl has decided not to change his stance on the NATO supplies. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has shown reservations over two recommendations. The PML-N wants to clip the resumption of the NATO supplies with an end to drone strike. The PML-N members also want to add a point to the draft asking the US to resolve the Kashmir issue in return of any sort of assistance from Pakistan. manzoor qadir
