JSQM decides to conduct own probe into Qureshi’s death
KARACHI: Dissatisfied with measures taken by the provincial government to ascertain the cause of death of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi, including constituting a 15-member committee of forensic experts to analyse the viscera taken from the body of late leader, the JSQM has decided to conduct probe into incident on its own.
“Sticking to our demand of conducting the analysis of viscera by international experts, we are also collecting evidences, including schedule of Shaheed Qureshi’s travels and meetings with people since March 23 public rally held in Karachi to his death near Sakrand town of Nawabshah district on April 7,” Asif Baladi, secretary general JSQM told PPI.
“JSQM believes that its leader was poisoned to death using most modern and sophisticated method. It could be a slow-poison given by shaking hands or through food or water or by any other means,“ he said, adding that it would also be investigated if anybody was hired/used for eliminating the JSQM chairman by the forces behind this conspiracy.
Referring to the murder of Gen Asif Nawaz Janjua to supplement his point of view, Baladi said it was established that he was poisoned to death only after his hair were sent abroad for the test. “In case of Qureshi, Sindh government’s steps are not satisfying, as Dr Umar Memon, head of forensic experts’ committee himself had admitted that they are lacking required equipment. Moreover, there had been different reports of change in number of jars containing the viscera. They had also not taken viscera from the heart and lungs of Shaheed Qureshi.”
To a question who could be involved in poisoning JSQM chairman, Baladi said, ”The JSQM is analysing the situation in wide perspective. Since a successful public rally in Karachi on March 23 last, Qureshi had emerged as a powerful leader who could give tough resistance to the oppressors and exploitative forces. So any force including certain allies of the government and their foreign patrons could be behind the ‘political murder’,” JSQM secretary general said.
Baladi reiterated that the inquiry committee did not satisfy JSQM as it consist of government employees.
About the future course of action, he said the central council of JSQM would meet on April 24 to decide future strategy. “The party has cancelled the death anniversary programmes of Saeen GM Syed, the founder of Jeay Sindh Movement, falling on April 25, however, the leadership would pay visit to his mausoleum at Sann town and a day earlier would meet to set the future course of action.
On a question about electing new head of JSQM, Baladi said that Dr Niaz Kalani is currently acting chairman, however, as per democratic traditions of party, the National Congress of JSQM would meet later to elect new chairman. ppi
