Judges who gave notice ineligible to sit in trial: Aitzaz

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has asked the counsel in PM Gilani contempt of court case, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan to complete his arguments by Wednesday, while Aitzaz prayed that the verdict would be announced after he had completed his arguments.

A seven-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk was hearing the Prime Minister Gilani's contempt of court case.

PM’s counsel Aitzaz Ahsan resuming his arguments on the constitution’s Article 10-A relating to fair trial said that if there was a flaw/ shortcoming in any law, then the court refers the matter to the parliament. As a result of the 18th Amendment in the constitution, 19th Amendment was done as such.

Aitzaz hammering on his earlier argument kept insisting that the judges who gave the notice to the prime minister were not legible to sit on the trial bench of the contempt case.

Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani on this occasion remarked that the courts could themselves initiate proceeding for getting their verdicts implemented.

Aitzaz Ahsan said that the judge in his own interest could not be the adjudicator even according to the Islamic laws. Once Hazrat Omar (RA) had appeared before the Qazi, who in respect had stood up, but Hazrat Omar didn’t like it and reprimanded him.

Prior to a hearing break, the court asked Aitzaz to complete his arguments on Article 10-A today, while Aitzaz replied it was not possible.
