Welfare of Kashmiris passion of people of Pakistan: Gilani

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Yousaf Raza Gilani on Thursday said welfare of Kashmiris was the passion of people of Pakistan.

He was talking to former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry at the PM’s House. Chaudhry is also a senior Pakistan People’s Party leader.

The premier said the democratic government would continue to extend its moral, diplomatic and political support to the people of Kashmir. He said his government wanted to resolve the Kashmir issue in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiris.

He referred to his meetings with Indian PM Manmohan Singh in which both leaders agreed to settle all outstanding issues between both countries, including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir, through negotiations and dialogue. Chaudhry thanked the PM for taking personal interest in the socio-economic development of the AJK. He praised the PM for announcing to establish an international airport, a medical college and new campus for Information Technology University in Mirpur.

During his visit to the AJK, the PM had also announced a dual carriageway between Lower Topa and Kohala and Mehran Shah Bridge. Separately, Law Secretary Yasmeen Abbasi called on the PM at the PM’s House and thanked him for reposing confidence in her by appointing her to the Law Ministry. app/staff report
