Asghar Khan case adjourned till April 25
ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) chaired by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry resumed the hearing of Asghar Khan case Monday, Geo News reported.The bench also includes Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez.
During today’s hearing, the Attorney General failed to present the inquiry commission’s reports pertaining to Mehrangate scandal and said that the missing reports could not be found.
The bench expressed surprise on learning the fact and ordered the Attorney General to submit his written reply in the matter.
CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry remarked that a report should be filed in case the commission’s reports had been stolen as they were very crucial.
The SC adjourned the hearing till April 25.
Asghar Khan had filed the petition in 1996, accusing the ISI of financing several politicians during the 1990 elections to create the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad (IJI) and prevent Benazir Bhutto’s PPP from winning. The ISI allegedly dished out Rs140 million for the purpose. The petition was based on the affidavit of former ISI chief Asad Durrani.
