Gift from free judiciary: Imran
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said the prime minister’s conviction in the contempt of court case was a gift from independent judiciary. Khan urged the prime minister to resign immediately, saying he had no moral ground to remain in the office any more. “Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani should step down immediately. If he will not obey the law, why will anyone else in the country?” said the PTI chief while addressing a press conference on Thursday. He said it was a historic day for the courts when they had indicted a powerful person. It was the first time that the rulers of the country had been brought to justice, he said, adding that the ruling elites had joined together to defy the law. He warned that his party would march towards Islamabad if the government defied the Supreme Court verdict regarding the prime minister’s conviction. Khan condemned the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) protest against the court’s decision and said he would arrange a massive show in Islamabad in response to the PPP’s demonstrations against the court’s ruling. staff report
