Hijack threat forces PIA plane to land

KARACHI: A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight on Friday made an emergency landing at the Karachi airport after a passenger threatened to hijack the aircraft. The PIA flight PK-586 was flying from Karachi to Bahawalpur around 1:09 pm when an airhostess alerted the captain that an economy class passenger, Javed Ansari, had threatened to hijack the plane. The captain informed the control tower about the situation and told the staff that he wanted to bring the plane back to Karachi. The plane landed back in Karachi at 1:40 pm. During interrogation, the passenger said that he had hurled a threat after a quarrel with the airhostess, but he had no intention to hijack the aircraft. PIA spokesman Sultan Hassan confirmed the case and said the aircraft was 40 nautical miles out of Karachi and the time was 13:25 hours, the spokesman said. The accused was offloaded and escorted by Airport Security Force (ASF). All passengers, including crewmembers and aircraft, are safe.” The flight was later scheduled to depart for Bahawalpur at around 3:30 pm, the spokesman said. After the initial interrogation, the ASF handed over the passenger to the Airport police. No case was registered till filling this report. staff report
